BOS

Most Wiccan/Witch websites always have a BOS page and they always put their spells or rituals on it. Not this website. I don't know you and you don't me therefore you won't get no spell or ritual from here. Just making that clear.

BOS stands for Book of Shadows. In early times a Book of Shadows was often referred to as a Grimoire. It contains all the personal and magickal information of the witch. For people who are new to the craft and are wondering what to put in it, the first 7 pages of this website is a good idea. You can design your BOS any way you like. You can have a section for your art and poetry, rituals and spells, basics of the craft, any lessons you have been given, meditational efforts, and basically it is a place to write your thoughts. It is your own personal journal. BOS's come in many forms, from fancy decorated floral journals, to 3 ring binders. Traditional BOS's are black covered with blank unlined pages. Most traditions use Black ink for everything that is done and red ink for everything that is said. Some witches even prefer to have a table of contents so as to keep everything easy to find. I would say that if you are a solitary witch there is no need for a table of contents, as it will be only you looking through your book. But if you are working with a coven in a tradition, there is a time when students will be copying from their teachers, and it makes it easier with a table of contents to find what the copier needs quickly.

As mentioned above, the first 7 pages might be something you would put in your BOS. But certain traditions might accept this only as your journal work or not allow it at all, for it is just common knowledge among any trad. Some tradition allow only the copying of traditional material to be put into their own, whereas others allow traditional material and what you feel needs to be put in there together. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying or making a journal and writing what you want in it.
